On January 10, 2020, Kennedale police received information through a tip to school staff as well as from Crime Stoppers of student possibly with a weapon at Kennedale High School. A school resource officer responded to the school office and found a male juvenile student with 9mm handgun in his bag. The weapon was not loaded at the time of discovery. The student was immediately taken into custody. The student was removed from campus to be temporarily held at the Kennedale Police Department until a parent could respond to take custody of the child. The weapon was placed into evidence to be held. The child was released pending a case being filed with the Juvenile Justice Center.
