Are we going to have Arlington drinking water now?

The water supply will not change immediately. However, as part of this collaboration, the City of Kennedale has also entered into an agreement to purchase drinking water from the City of Arlington. A connection between the two systems must be established first. Then a gradual transition will occur towards the maximum purchase of Arlington water.

What about trash and recycling?

The current curbside trash and recycling service, provided by Waste Connections (formerly Progressive), will not change.

Is the cost changing?

The current utility rate schedule will not change at this time.

Will my bill look different?

Customers will receive bills from Arlington Water Utilities beginning in February 2021. More details are available at cityofkennedale.com/billing.

Brief Background of this Regional Collaboration

These two contracts, in development since November 2017, were recommended for City Council approval by the Utility and Infrastructure Board (UIB) as well as by staff. The first is for the purchase of water (PDF) from the City of Arlington. The second provides for the City of Arlington to assume the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) (PDF) of the Kennedale water and wastewater utility systems. Both the Kennedale and Arlington City Councils approved the agreements on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, and they became effective on Friday, March 29, 2019.

Customers have now received their final invoice from FATHOM (for November 2019 usage). Beginning Friday, December 13, 2019, utility billing and customer service will be provided by MuniBilling, under a short-term contract designed to bridge the gap from the time FATHOM ceases to provide service until all Kennedale accounts can be set up and tested within Arlington’s system.
