    A mitigation action is a specific action, project, activity, or process taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their impacts. Examples of hazard mitigation actions could include:

    Encouraging residents to sign up for emergency notifications and to be prepared for severe weather events

    • Installing new outdoor warning sirens
    • Constructing storm shelters at mobile home parks, campgrounds, or city parks
    • Burying power lines to reduce power failure
    • Addressing flood mitigation in key locations
    • Conducting property buyouts of homes at risk from repetitive flooding
    • Enforcing flood ordinances
